THE PSYCHOLOGY OF HUMAN SEXUALITY

Human sexuality is the way people encounter and convey themselves sexually. This includes biological, psychological, physical ,erotic, social, spiritual, emotional, or social behaviors and feelings. Further sexuality shapes the brain and body into a pleasure-seeking. The history of human sexuality is as long as  human itself 200000+years and counting .Some of the earliest recovered artifact's from ancient cultures are thought to be fertility totems. According to the American biologist Alfred Kinsley believed that sexual knowledge was the product of guesswork and had never really been studied in an unbiased way.

Sex describes the means of biological reproduction. Sex includes sexual organs i.e male and female organs. The term gender describes gender identity (psychological) and gender role sociological representation sex. In the early ages there were cultural norms in which some tasks were defined by what was considered as masculine and feminine. Sexual orientation refers to a persons sexual attraction  to others. In the context of sexual orientation, sexual attraction is defined as the persons’ capability to     arouse the sexual interests of the other person or else sexual interest towards each other.
Sexual behaviors are linked to "fantasies" which refer to any mental imagery that is sexually arousing. Sexual fantasies are often a context for the sexual behavior of masturbation -tactical stimulation of the body for sexual pleasure. Historically masturbation has earned a very bad reputation and associated with causing adverse effects such as hairy palms, acne, blindness and even death.(Kellogg, 1888).It’s clear that people engage in a multitude of behaviors whose variety is limited only by our own imaginations. sexual consent refers to the voluntary and conscious participation in a sexual act.
Sexual consent is referred to as the baseline for normal - acceptable and healthy behaviors whereas non-consensual refers to forced ,pressured or unconscious participation.Sexuality makes us human. Naturally, its fundamental function is to propagate the species. But clearly, sex goes far beyond the powerful evolutionary instinct to procreate. Sex is also about sensual pleasure, enjoyment, excitement or even ecstasy. In addition to the earthly and earthly delights of the flesh the thrill of physically touching and being touched by another warm body, the mounting excitement toward sexual release, the climactic ecstasy of orgasm and the pulsating, peaceful afterglow of relaxation following orgasm--human sexuality also serves both a psychological and spiritual purpose.
At some deeper level, sexuality is intimately linked with mortality either with birth and death. Sexuality fights against death, affirming life. Sexuality is inherently different for women and men. Most men tend to see sex as something they can never get enough of, and seek, at some primarily level, to disseminate their seed as widely as possible. Most women see sex as secondary in importance to intimacy, physical closeness, and commitment. Men tend to be able to separate sex from love, eros or romance, whereas women tend to liken to the two. Men tend  to be less discriminating or monogamous in pursuing sexual satisfaction; while women tend to be far more selective and focused exclusively on one particular sexual partner at a time. For most females, sex is mainly about relationship and bring forth offspring at first, and pleasure and sexual satisfaction second. For the majority of men, these priorities are reversed.
Yet, sexual problems such as erectile dysfunction,  premature ejaculation, genito - pelvic pain/penetration disorder, inhibited sexual interest, arousal or desire, compulsive promiscuity, sex addiction sexual avoidance, fear of the opposite sex, guilt or sexual inhibition, sexual perversions, sexual sadism or masochism disorders, as well as symptoms secondary to sexual obstruct or repression such as anxiety, insomnia, chronic muscular tension, headaches and many more are quite common.
Sex can sometimes surrogated for true intimacy, serving as a way of distancing us from others rather than connecting in the  process which draws people closer together. At the same time, sex can also be used to avoid facing ourselves and the existential facts of life. Like a drug, sexual activity is engaged in by some to escape from feelings of low self esteem ,anxiety, meaninglessness, sadness, grief ,anger, rage or to handle others and apply power and control over them.
Finally, there is the fact that human sexuality is strongly influenced, for better or worse, by both family and culture, as well as by the way in stages of development are navigated during early childhood and adolescence. By the time we reach adulthood, there are, psychologically, always at least six people present in the bedroom. Because of all this, sex still plays a significant part in contemporary psychotherapy.
